StudioPress Tip-Thumbnails on Category Pages [video]

thumbnail

I decided to do this video and create this post primarily for one reason….YOU asked for it! :-) I’ve literally gotten 3-4 questions in the last couple weeks about this, so thought I’d better put this up for everyone.
Before I show you the video, I do want to share with you that I found this information in the StudioPress forums…..as much as I love WordPress AND StudioPress (in case you hadn’t figured that out by now)- SO much of what I’ve learned has come from reading those forums and asking questions. I’m not a coder, but through reading and testing stuff I’ve learned enough to grow my business and answer your questions. Suffice it to say the support you get in the forums MORE than pays for the themes! :-)

You’ll find the download link for the code you need to insert into your archives.php file directly below the video (which by the way is super short).
**SUGGESTION**
Before you add the code to your archives.php file, I HIGHLY recommend you copy and paste the FULL arhives.php file into a text editor (notepad) in case you make a mistake (or download your archives.php file from your host/cpanel). I do this EVERY time I’m working with code…..better safe than sorry!

Here’s the link to download the code you’ll need to insert in your archives.php

    Hey,

I was the one who requested this earlier today and your video was perfect! Thanks so much for the help, I would have never figured this out on my own, I had no idea that there was such monstrous coding that had to be done, so your download and video was a huge help. My blog looks much better now. Thanks again! :)

You\\\’re blog looks awesome btw, I didn\\\’t even realize it was based on studiopress til watching your video. You\\\’ve done an awesome job at customizing it!

    Hi Marcus,
I know what you mean about the code! :-)
Glad it helped….thanks for all the compliments on the site too….it’s evolved over time (started with the Church theme and switched to the Magazine theme).
    Thanks,
    Kim

Thanks for the video… but the Revolution Pro Media does not seem to have a line such as the excerpt line… what am I missing?

  4. Matt says:

Another simple way I’ve found to achieve this is with this spiffy plug-in: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/thumbnail-for-excerpts/

it pulls the first image in the post and crops it into a thumbnail for all excerpts.

    Thanks for the video Kim!

  7. I tried this on my blog but it didn't work. Does it only work with certain themes?
